What went well:
- Developed a connection on the get go.
- We had a great engaging activity that peeked their creativity. We had a covered box with a whole the students were able to guess what it was.
- We gave a child who was excited and blurted out what it was the opportunity to open the box instead of telling him not to blurt out.
- The children enjoyed tactile it was a material that students did not often get to use.
- Through a structured environment we let the kids create what they wanted with the play dough and we did not tell them what to do.
- To reforce tactile we complimented the students on the different textures that they used.
- We made a smart decision on the spot,
Challenge:
- We got really exited and gave the students clay too early, we could have structured it a bit better showed the students different techniques while having them practice it before we gave them the clay.
- Once the students got clay, they got super exited and could not focus on us.
- We planned for an extension
Overall, however they really enjoyed it since they had the freedom to express their own creativity. We were facilitators and not preachers.
